Blocked Drain Plumbers Based Right Here in Logan Reserve

A blocked drain rarely picks a good time. One minute the kitchen sink is draining slowly, the next the toilet is gurgling or the grate outside the laundry is bubbling up. Left alone, a small blockage can turn into a smelly overflow, a wet floor or water damage under the house. Our team is based in Logan Reserve, so we are a short drive from most of Logan, including the northern suburbs where fast local help can be harder to find.

We do not just push the blockage further down the pipe. We find it, clear it and, where it makes sense, run a drain camera through the line so you can see what caused it. You get clear options and an upfront price before any work starts, with no hidden fees. It is the same honest approach we bring to all of our plumbing repairs and maintenance across Logan, and while we are there we can look at anything else that is bothering you, from a dripping tap to a hot water system that is playing up.

Blocked Drain Causes, Fixture by Fixture

Where a blockage shows up tells us a lot about its cause.

Kitchen Sinks: Fat, Oil and Grease

Fat and oil go down warm, then cool and harden on the pipe walls, and food scraps stick to that layer until the pipe narrows to a trickle. The signs are slow draining, gurgling and a sour smell from the plughole. Wipe greasy pans with paper towel before washing up and use a sink strainer.

Toilets: Wipes and Things That Should Not Be Flushed

Wet wipes (even flushable ones), paper towel, sanitary products and kids’ toys are what usually stop toilets up. If the bowl rises when you flush, stop flushing. If other fixtures are slow too, the blockage is probably further down the sewer line.

Showers and Baths: Hair and Soap

Hair binds with soap scum and conditioner into a matted plug just below the grate. It builds slowly, so water drains a little slower each week until it pools around your feet. A cheap hair catcher saves a lot of trouble.

Laundry Tubs: Lint and Grit

Lint, fabric fibres and sand or dirt from work clothes collect in laundry tubs and washing machine outlets. A partly blocked tub can overflow when the machine pumps out. A lint filter on the outlet hose helps.

Floor Wastes and Outdoor Gullies

Floor wastes collect hair and grit. Outside, the overflow relief gully often ends up under pot plants, pavers or a garden bed. Logan City Council says the property owner is responsible for keeping this gully properly fitted and maintained, with a loose grate that can pop off and nothing built or planted over it.

Sewer Lines: Tree Roots in Older Clay Pipes

Many established Logan homes from the 1970s and 80s were built with clay sewer pipes laid in short lengths. Roots from nearby trees chase moisture into the joints and small cracks, then grow into a mat that catches everything flowing past. Clearing them restores flow, but roots tend to grow back, so a camera inspection shows how much damage there is.

What Happens When We Arrive

Here is the usual order on site:

  1. We ask a few quick questions: which fixtures are affected, when it started and whether it has happened before.
  2. We run water through the affected fixtures and check the overflow relief gully and inspection openings to work out roughly where the blockage sits.
  3. We explain what we think is going on and give you a price before we start.
  4. We clear the blockage with the right equipment for the pipe and the cause, including high-pressure water jetting.
  5. We flush the line, test every affected fixture and clean up.
  6. If the drain looks likely to block again, or we suspect roots or a broken pipe, we recommend a CCTV inspection so you can see the problem for yourself.

How a CCTV Drain Inspection Works

  • A small waterproof camera on a flexible cable goes into the drain, usually through an inspection opening or gully.
  • We watch the live picture on a screen as the camera travels along the pipe, and you are welcome to watch with us.
  • The camera shows roots, cracks, displaced joints, sagging sections, grease build-up and anything that should not be there.
  • It pinpoints where the problem sits, so any repair targets the right spot.
  • You get a plain English rundown of what we saw and your options. If the pipe is cracked or root-damaged, that can include pipe relining.

Before You Call: Quick Checks You Can Do

A few simple checks help us understand the problem faster:

  • Count the fixtures. One slow sink is usually a local blockage in that pipe. If the toilet, shower and sinks are all slow or backing up together, the main sewer line is the likely culprit.
  • Look at your overflow relief gully. This is the round grate outside near the bathroom or laundry. If the grate has lifted or water is bubbling out, stop using water inside and call us.
  • A plunger is fine for a simple sink or toilet blockage. If a few firm tries have not cleared it, it is time for a plumber.

Sewer or Stormwater, Your Pipe or Council's?

Most Logan homes have two separate drainage systems. The sewer takes wastewater from toilets, showers, basins, sinks and the laundry. The stormwater system carries rain from gutters, downpipes and yard drains out to the kerb or a street drain.

A sewer blockage shows up inside the house: slow or gurgling fixtures, a toilet that rises, bad smells, or the overflow relief gully lifting outside. A stormwater blockage shows up when it rains: clean gutters that still overflow, water pooling around downpipes or bubbling out of a yard pit.

Who pays depends on where the blockage is. Logan City Council repairs blocked and damaged sewer mains outside your property boundary, and asks residents to call a licensed plumber first for problems with the sewer pipes on their property. So a blockage inside the boundary is generally the owner’s to fix, and one in the council main is council’s. If our inspection shows the fault is in the main, we will tell you so you can report it to Logan City Council. Renting? Let your property manager or landlord know straight away.

Simple Ways to Prevent Blocked Drains

  • Scrape plates into the bin and wipe greasy pans before washing up.
  • Use strainers in the kitchen sink and hair catchers in the shower.
  • Only flush toilet paper. Bin wet wipes and sanitary products.
  • Keep the overflow relief gully grate loose and clear. Council advises against covering it or planting trees and shrubs close to it.
  • Never run downpipes or tank overflows into the gully. Council notes stormwater getting into the sewer can overload it in heavy rain.
  • Keep gutters clear so leaves do not wash into your stormwater pipes.
  • Had root blockages before? Ask us about a camera check before the next one.

Blocked Drain Plumbers Across the Logan Region

From our base in Logan Reserve, we clear blocked drains right across Logan. That includes Loganlea, Meadowbrook, Bethania and Tanah Merah in the north-east, Marsden and Kingston to the north, and Browns Plains, Berrinba and Heritage Park to the north-west, as well as Waterford, Waterford West, Park Ridge and the rest of the region.

Serving homes across the Logan region and surrounding areas.

What We See Under Logan Homes

Here is what we tend to find around Logan:

  • Kingston, Marsden, Loganlea, Bethania and Tanah Merah: lots of established homes from the 1970s and 80s. Some still have older clay sewer pipes, and tree roots love the joints. If a drain here keeps blocking, roots are a common cause, and a camera inspection tells us for sure.
  • Browns Plains, Heritage Park and Berrinba: mature gardens and big trees mean roots and leaf litter in stormwater lines, plus plenty of kitchen grease blockages in busy family homes.
  • Meadowbrook and Loganlea: a mix of family homes, townhouses and rentals near Logan Hospital and the Griffith University Logan campus. Where units share a drain line, one blockage can affect the neighbours too.
  • Logan Reserve, Park Ridge and the newer estates: modern PVC drains are less prone to root damage, but wet wipes, fat and building debris still cause plenty of blockages.

We had a really great experience with Logan Plumbing and Gas! We had no hot water and they came out the same day to figure out what was going on. Rhylee was fantastic — knowledgeable, professional and genuinely took the time to explain the issue, what our options were and what everything would cost. Rhylee quickly identified that a component had blown and replaced with a more suited part. It turned out the fix required additional electrical work as well, so after replacing the defected part Rhylee organised a trusted electrician and had everything sorted by that evening — just in time for showers! 🙌 Really appreciated Rhylee explaining the ongoing servicing of hot water systems, as I honestly had no idea that was even a thing. Super quick, great communication and really smooth fix. Appreciate the help and the effort to get us back up and running so quickly. Thanks Rhylee and the Logan Plumbing and Gas team! Highly recommend.

completed their work in a prompt courteous and tradesmanlike manner. Walked us through every stage of works. The extent of work was greater than that quoted but I fully expected that the works would be greater. Pricing was value for money. Recommend you keep their contact in your register of quality trades.

Blocked Drain FAQs

Straight answers about blocked drains, pricing, response times and what to expect.

It depends on where the blockage is, what caused it and how easy the drain is to reach. A simple sink blockage is quicker to clear than a sewer line full of tree roots. We give you a clear price before we start, and right now you get $79 off blocked drains plus a $0 call-out. Please mention the offer when you call. Conditions apply.

Generally, the drains inside your property boundary are the owner’s responsibility, and Logan City Council looks after the sewer mains outside it. Council’s own advice is to call a licensed plumber first if you have a problem with the pipes on your property. If we find the fault is in the council main, we will tell you so you can report it to Logan City Council.

For urgent blockages, like an overflowing toilet or wastewater coming up through a gully, we offer same-day local response where we can during business hours. Call 0468 068 810 and we will tell you how soon we can get there. We are open Monday to Friday, 7am to 4pm, Saturday 7am to 1pm, and closed on Sunday.

A drain that keeps blocking usually has something inside catching waste, such as tree roots, a sagging or broken section, or a heavy build-up of grease. A CCTV drain inspection shows us the cause, so we can recommend a proper fix. For stubborn grease, sludge and root blockages, we use high-pressure water jetting to scour the pipe clean. If the pipe itself is cracked or has root damage, pipe relining can repair it from the inside, often with little or no digging. We will tell you honestly if it suits your pipe.

It is a camera check of the inside of your pipes, with no digging (see how it works above). It suits repeat blockages or buying an older home.

It can be. Wastewater coming up through a gully, shower or floor waste, or an overflowing toilet, needs quick attention for health reasons. Stop using water inside and call us on 0468 068 810 during business hours. A single slow sink can usually wait.

We do not recommend it. Chemical cleaners seldom clear a solid blockage, they can sit in the pipe if they do not work, and they can be hard on older pipes.

That is usually your overflow relief gully. It is designed to let wastewater escape outside if the sewer line blocks, so it does not come up through your shower or toilet. If it is overflowing, stop using water inside and call us.

Yes, especially in the older clay pipes found in some established suburbs like Kingston, Marsden and Loganlea. We clear the roots and can show you on camera where they get in.

Yes. We explain what we found in plain English, so owners can decide quickly and tenants are not left waiting.

We are based in Logan Reserve and clear blocked drains across the Logan region, including Loganlea, Meadowbrook, Bethania, Tanah Merah, Marsden, Kingston, Browns Plains, Berrinba, Heritage Park, Waterford, Park Ridge and surrounding suburbs.

Left alone, it can. Overflowing wastewater can soak floors, cabinets and the ground under the house, and a cracked pipe can leak into the soil around it. Clearing a blockage early is the easiest way to avoid that.
